The ankle sprain (I): The ligaments

 ligaments ankle sprain

The ligaments are elements that  help us to hold the articulations to prevent them moving in addresses in those that doesn’t have to make it.

In the mobile articulations the bone doesn’t hold the contact area totally with the other bone to allow the displacement and this way is able to carry out the movements.

The most mobile articulations are at the same time the most unstable (that is to say, those that less subject they are) and this gives cause to that in the movements the articulations can be come out of their place.

To hold the articulations without impeding the mobility of the bones we have these reinforced with the ligaments that are tapes of fibrous fabric that fix in the addresses in those that it could separate the articulation.

They have very little elasticity or any, and this it is an essential aspect so that they can complete their function of limit of the movements.

It not only prevents that the articulation moves for non wanted addresses , but rather they limit to the width of the movements of the articulation to maintain them inside the physiologic limits.

In this sense the ligaments receive information of the brain to perceive and to control the movements.

The ligaments receive the sanguine watering what will benefit their regeneration.

They are more important in the articulations of more mobility,as the shoulder and the hip that can be mobilized in the three plans of the space for example.

It will continue…

The rise of loads (I): Importance in the everyday life

the rise of loads weightlifting

In the cultural tradition of certain regions, games are included within the certain celebrations, in which they competed with respect to a number of activities which they comprised of the way of life of the region.

The people of the town measured forces (and in to some cases she continues it doing) in activities that they had very trained.

Between these activities we have been a wide range of activities, almost always tied with the way of life of the zone, as they can be the cut of trunks, launching of objects, and among others many…. the rise of heavy objects (stones, etc).

And it is that the rise of loads is one of the most habitual activities in our everyday life. From the professional who dedicates  to move objects, for that the rise is a gesture that is repeated during hours throughout the day, until the person that in his house and he must raise some box, or simply to crouch itself to take a paper of the ground, all we must raise objects in our day to day.

We are going to include in this section crouching to take objects without weight of the ground because the mechanics of the movement is the same and the injuries that can be produced are of the same nature.

The rise of loads finds in the weight-lifting its expression in the form of sport. In the weight-lifting one looks for to raise the maximum possible weight from the ground to taking it over the head.

The competitions are divided in categories of weight, sex and age, as well as in different exercises from rise.

The weight-lifting requires the maximum development of the force and to dominate a technique serves that to remove us the maximum advantage from the movements, as well as not to injure to us.

The weight-lifting has become, in addition, in means to develop the force for other sports, of course, adapting the loads.

The movements of extension of combined legs and vertebral column are fundamental to improve in the scope of the jumps, races, displacements, rises of weights and maintenance of the vertical position, and for that reason the weight-lifting exercises are used to improve the power in many sports.

In the same way that the weight-lifting has application for other many activities, the gesture to raise objects becomes an essential movement to improve our ability and capacity to realise daily movements (to raise stairs, to run to take the bus, to take suitcases, etc).

That is to say, one becomes means of essential training for our day to day, reason why it would be quite interesting to include it in our plans of training.

In next chapters, we will shell the subject progressively, beginning by the fundamental precautions….

Periostitis ( I ): Symptoms and causes.

periostitis

Periostitis is one of the most popular wounds  in the running world.
Periostitis ( periost-itis ) is the periostio swelling, this is a tissue that splits the bone to the muscle. It affects the shin that is set in the lower tibia.

The symptom is a vague pain, with nuisance and swelling in the lower inner shin. The pain just occurs running or jumping, disappearing when we keep still. The most common thing is that this pain appeares in both legs, although it can appear in just one of them.

Perostitis appeares because an excess of shin working during the races and the jumps.Absorbing the falls in jumps and step races, the calf muscles compress the perisotio against the bone, and if we abuse of these activities ,it can cause tissue irritation.

Other cause would be the excessive breeding in the calf muscles ( calf muscles, shins, perineos ),they help to compress the periostio with the bone.
A fortuituos blow in the shin can damage the zone and cause periostitis.

The usual situation,in the runner specific case ,is that periostitis appeares , as we have said before, caused by the foot impacts with the floor. These produce an effort and tension that shins must absorb. The impacts against the floor will be more violent in themselves :

- We run on the road.
-We use hard sole shoes.
-We have a footstep when we run in a defectuous way ( high arch feet - pes cavus -,plane feet ,etc ).
-We have an overweight.
-We have a working excess during the races or the jumps.
-We vary suddenly any of the  previous situations .

Periostitis ,as the rest of the wounds,  can be seen as a signal when we are training more than other times.

During the next chapter,we will look for more resorts to avoid their appereance, or , in other words, resorts to train in a more accurate way.

What are the stiffnesses? (I)

stiffnesses

Who has never had stiffnesses ? Everybody has had them and we know that they appeare when we are traininig a lot of time or when we take up again our phisycal training after a long period of time, but it is not clear what produces them and what they are.

Stiffnesses would be the tearing of small fibres after the physical training. It is not considered an injury because these small tearings are regenerated very quickly, but for some unconfortable feeeling, they are not a problem to carry on training.

They are very easy to feel, so when moving or touching the affected area ,some muscular pain and  stiffness are felt.

It is very common that they appeare a day after the training, but it is also normal that they are after just an hour, when we are still relaxed. They can be long some days and in some cases we can suffer them even more than a week !

Other day I will tell you what produced them…
